Five states make up the southeastern part of Nigeria and they are Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
The zone is bordered on the west by the River Niger, on the south by the riverine Niger Delta, on the north by the level North Central, and on the east by the Cross River.
It is separated between the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic in the dry north and the Cross-Niger transition forest ecoregions in the south.
Culturally, the vast bulk of the zone is located in Igboland, which is the native cultural homeland of the Igbo people, the largest ethnic group in the southeastern region, accounting for over 90% of the region’s population.
22 million people live in the region, which accounts for nearly 10% of the nation’s total population.

According to the 2006 Nigerian National Census, Umunneochi has a population of 163,928 people and a land area of 368 km2. Agriculture; mining for quorite, laterite, and granite, as well as trading, are the main industries.
Black beans, cocoyam, yams, and cassava are the primary food crops. Palm and cashew nuts are the main cash crops.
The Lokpanta region contains the largest livestock market in Nigeria. Public and private schools and churches are present.

Notable People From Nneochi
Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejocha, a prominent lawmaker in Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives, was born on November 23, 1969.
She is the federal representative for Abia State’s Isuikwuato/Umunneochi constituency.
Onyejocha participates actively in the Nigerian federal parliament and frequently makes insightful contributions to discussions in the house about important national issues.
She has sponsored a number of measures and made motions that have enhanced the lives of common people and supported the protection of their rights.
She was the proponent of a measure in 2017 that mandates emergency care for gunshot victims in hospitals without requiring or delaying care to wait for police reports to be obtained before beginning care in emergency situations.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was Nigeria’s leading party at the time, was Onyejocha’s platform for her first election in 2007.
After being heavily pressured by the leaders of her previous party to give up her desire for a reelection to the house, she switched to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2018. For a fourth term in the Nigerian Green Chamber, she was successfully re-elected in 2019.

In 2002, Onyejocha served as the executive transition chairman for the Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State.
She was the commissioner for resource management and human resource development in the Abia State executive cabinet in 2003.
